2 May 2024
GATE II funding novel solutions for climate-neutral aviation

IFB Hamburg is providing EUR 4 million for the Green Aviation Technologies (GATE II) effort to decarbonise aviation and is accepting applications for funding until September 30, 2024. IFB Hamburg and the Hamburg Aviation Office are also holding an ideas workshop on May 14, 2024. Drafts of projects can be submitted until June 14, 2024 to receive preliminary feedback.

Millions in funding for green aviation

Up to EUR 2 million are available for collaborative projects and EUR 500,000 for individual projects. The focus is on products, procedures and services in innovative aircraft energy and cabin systems for more sustainable airport operations. SMEs in aviation and co-operating universities and research institutions can obtain grants for their R&D work. The conditions vary depending on the size of company and the type of project.

GATE II now in second round

Hamburg wants to remain one of the world's largest aviation locations and play a visible role in the sector's transformation into a sustainable industry, said Michael Westhagemann, former Senator for Economics, when announcing the initiative in December 2021. Launched in 2022, GATE II is now in its second round, and funds collaborative or individual projects for decarbonising aviation.
